Mermaid Mania comes to Darlings’ Day Out

The word on the street is that Mermaid Mania is on its way! Move over unicorns, the next hot trend has fins!

We, at Darling’s Day Out strive to keep ourselves up to date and bang on trend. As such, when we heard about the new craze sweeping our beaches last summer, we just knew that mermaid mania was set to be the next big thing. Popping up on Perth beaches up and down the coastline, the talented merpeople at Perth Mermaids inspired young minds statewide. Who could forget the incredible mermaids in their enormous tanks at the Fringe World Festival? And The Sunday Times’ perthnow page was reporting as early as May of this year that the mermaid movement was infiltrating even the Perth food scene.

And we’re not the only ones! Celebrities such as Miley Cyrus and Brittany Spears have been spotted sporting fins. Kim Kardashian even posted photos on her Instagram feed of her daughter taking mermaid lessons from a real mermaid whilst holidaying in St Barts! And the numerous tail shaped blankets, double sided sequin cushions, hair dye extravaganzas and swimming pool accessories only seem to be bolstering the theory.

Being one of those fabulous few that was old enough (young enough?) to see Disney’s The Little Mermaid when it was released in cinemas, (oops, am I dating myself?), I can remember mermaid mania sweeping our schools and it was nothing like this. Ariel and her cute and curious sidekicks had nothing on the new craze that is currently taking our state by storm.

So, what is it that we find so inspiring about the mermaid? Is it that these magical, mythical creatures simply bring brightness into our world? Is it the history – mankind has been fascinated by these nautical, fairy tale females for centuries? Or is it something more simple?

We plan to find out! Darling’s Day Out is currently in the process of launching our Mermaid Package and we want you to get in on the action. Come and see what the wonder is all about. Contact Darling’s Day Out to plan your little darling’s magical mermaid merrymaking!
